Lately I’ve been feeling patriotic about the US. I love this wonderfully flawed melting pot / salad bowl / mosaic in which I live. (You may choose the term you prefer. It all depends on what decade you were in elementary school and your beliefs about how cultures should come together. I’m a salad bowl person myself.) So what is this great country missing….?

AN AWESOME THEME SONG

There are some great songs about America out there. I love “This Land is Your Land” by Woodie Guthrie. I sang “50 Nifty United States” in grade school and I still like that one. And of course you can’t forget the Ray Charles version of “America, The Beautiful”. But there isn’t an modern upbeat patriotic song that I can put on my iPod and play while I’m in Ecuador but missing the good ol’ U.S of A.

In order to inspire any songwriters who might read this post, I am including a video from Chile. I really wish we had as cool a song as this is. The song talks about all the fabulous characteristics of Chile but does so in a really cool way. It makes me want to dance and visit Chile at the same time. The chorus actually encourages audience participation!!!
